Ridgway School

Ridgway school is a Wellington primary school catering to approximately 200 pupils. Their previous website was static and had a low level of involvement from staff, students, and parents. A more interactive site was required that met the needs of the staff, pupils, families as well as prospective families interested in the School. Due to difficulties in performing website updates, the site was not always kept current, so a complete re-work was needed - not only to give the site a facelift, but to make sure it could be updated in the future.

Ridgway had a range of goals for the site, that were advanced beyond the standard website of New Zealand schools. These goals included:

• Secure areas for parents, staff, board members and children to access and share information
• Newsletters sent out directly through the website
• Ability for parents to download newsletters and notices
• Access information on the school, the board and staff
• Images, images, and more images, with the use of photo galleries
• Promote fundraising events to the local community
• Keep families up-to-date with events by utilising a calendar system that can interact with their email calendar (ical)
• Class areas for displaying class work, art, book reviews, games, and photos
• Sponsorship options, to provide some extra income for the school, while not corporatizing the schools site
• Social Media links

The end result was a site that far exceeded the school’s expectations, it is now proving to be a strong communication device for the school and is something to be proud of.

Through the content management system MoST, the school's administrators are now able to update the site, to make sure that the website is kept current.
