Karori Sanctuary, just 2km as the tui flies from central Wellington, was the world's first fully-fenced urban conservation project. Beginning life as a community conservation project with a unique vision, the Sanctuary has fast become a major eco-tourism destination for people wanting to experience conservation in action and see some of NZ's rarest animals in the wild. The Sanctuary is currently undertaking an exciting redevelopment of their facilities, creating a world-class visitor and educational experience that tells the story of the NZ conservation movement and showcases our natural history.
In 2008 expert was given the exciting task of redesigning Karori Sanctuary's website to turn it into a world-class tourism site. The new site is a careful balance of information architecture, aesthetic design and functionality. These all work to increase the value of the online marketing and enhance the experience for site browsers and members.
The new site, built inside MoST, provides the not-for-profit organisation a cost-effective online portal for communication. The site will be further developed over the coming months to include online member management, e-commerce and shopping cart facilities.
